love actually is....all around

I had my annual winter viewing of Love Actually this weekend. If you haven't seen it, you should. It would appeal to most people. Mostly female, but because it is British, I like to think it has a more broad appeal than just a "chick flick" (those brits...great humour). The Christmas season wouldn't be complete without the shenanigans of Jaime, Aurelia, Sarah, Karl, Mia, Snape (sorry, Alan Rickman, but that voice is now Snape's), Emma Thompson, David, Nathalie, "Miss Duncan Donuts 2003", Juliet....and really all of them. How can you not love a character named "Colon Frissel" who goes to Wisconsin to get laid?

It has put me in the Christmas spirit and now I'm all ready to do my shopping, to play the Christmas music, and maybe even to bring out the Santa's Marching Band. (and if you don't have a Santa's Marching Band, consider yourself lucky)

So, what the Gingerbread Latte has started, Love Actually has completed. 'Tis now the Christmas season. May the spirit be with you...

i've become my mother

I guess it was bound to happen eventually...but I think that as of today, I am officially my mother.

It started with random comments about how people should be wearing their helmets whilst riding their bikes and continued with things like wanting to make my bed in the morning and eating strangely small portions of ice cream.

But today, Jordan brought home some PC Double Chocolate Crunch Cereal and the first thing I thought was "What is the world coming too? Double chocolate cereal?" So something my mother would think. (and those of you who know my mother can hear that intonation in the cereal can't you???) Instead of saying what I was thinking I simply said "You'll just be eating that for dessert right?"

Good thing I like my mother or I might have to start working really hard to reverse the turning into her. (though I'm not my mum completely- I'm actually very curious to try this cereal...I'll have to have some for dessert tonight)

in the news

A couple of stories caught my eye today:
Canadians to be paid for medals.
Other countries have been doing this for years but Canada hasn't really done it. My first reaction is that I don't like the idea. But on the other hand...most of the athletes aren't really well funded and in order to be a "winner", you don't have a lot of time to make much money. My only beef would be that I think this would mean that NHLers would get that extra cash for winning a medal. I would hope they'd donate it back to an organization that supports the elite athletes that really need it.

The other story that caught my eye was this one: NS bylaw will ban smoking in cars with kids.
It is about time- way to go Nova Scotia! Hopefully the rest of Canada will follow. It is unfair for ANYONE to be subjected to the confines of a car full of cigarette smoke. Kids can't even do anything about it. I hope no one complains about it because I think this is a wonderful way to protect kids.

practically running skirt season

It may be dark by 5pm, but at least it is warm. Who'd have thunk it would be 13 degrees on November 14th?!!
I don't think it will stay for much longer (in fact i think the high will be 1 on Saturday), but I swear there is a humidex today...

sunshine on my shoulder makes me happy

So now that the sun seems to have disappeared...

Seriously, I left for my run at 4:30. People already had their headlights on, the streetlights went on as I was out there and I noticed a flashing light I hadn't seen before.

It is getting cold. It is getting dark. I think it is going to be a looooong winter.
(clearly, i have real problems)

I will console myself in red cups, warm soup, mittens, and happy thoughts.

lest we forget

(the tomb of the unknown soldier)

As per Remembrance Day tradition, we've been watching a little Band of Brothers. I am grateful for what I have, for where I was born and for what has been sacrificed so that I can live this way. I have freedom and safety. That makes me lucky.

not quite ready...but almost

I'll be back. Maybe even later tonight, but I've decided to stay and just be extra conscious of what I'm writing. If I share something about you that you aren't happy with let me know.
