just a quick one

It's very nice to be "home for the holidays".
I will probably be away from the computer and enjoying time with friends and family. I'll get back to my regular posting once I'm back to my other home.
Happy Boxing day...I hope you won all your boxing matches.

not much exciting to say...

I really don't have much to say...one more sleep and I get to come home. Woohoo.
I will do my best to forget about the job situation for the next week or two and just have some fun.
Just in case I don't post before then...I hope you all have a Merry Christmas. I hope you are able to take time for family and for yourself as well.

who wouldn't want to hire me?

Well, I'm about to leave for the "big" interview. I'm sure it will all go well. I'm bringjng my ipod for the bus ride so that I can hopefully find some calm along the way.
I'm nervous...but I'm sure it will be fine...right?

oh christmas tree

So we decided that we did indeed need some sort of christmas tree. Jordan is very proud of his creation. It was a joint creative idea, but he was the one who put the plan into action and created this lovely version of a tree. Unfortunately, this picture was taken before I made the angel for the top. Total cost: $2.98 plus applicable taxes. Points to whoever can figure out the components of the Charlie Browniest tree around.

There was also some baking going on. We don't have a rolling pin so I used an empty wine bottle. I would have used a full one...but why oh why would there be a full one lying around ;-)

Anyway, there are now two days until my interview...eek. I really hope they can give me a good indication of what might happen there BEFORE I leave to go home. But I really must get back to rocking around the christmas tree (though it was pointed out that I was actually rockin' beside it).

let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

The snow hath fallen

I'm glad we aren't on the ground floor.

I think that if the road had been plowed and if the sidewalk had actually been shovelled, that extension would be in use.
Apparently this isn't normal. I'm glad for it...what a mess trying to get around today. It really made me glad I didn't have to drive though. I guess all the side streets were neglected today because the main ones needed to be plowed and re-plowed...though I am pretty sure I hear one outside on our street right now.
I have been promising to show these magical fire hydrant extensions, so I figured this would be the perfect opportunity. I'll make sure to take another picture once the extension is in use.
Have a great weekend!

another random thursday

Why not?

-I'm getting really excited about going home next week (8 more days). It's a good thing I have a million things going on next week or it would be agonizing.

-I keep forgetting that Kris and Lynn won't be there...we'll miss you guys!

-We're supposed to get something like 20cm of snow over the next 36 hours or so. Eek. I'll have to run out and get a picture of those fire hydrant extensions in use.

-Because of all that snow, no one will be able to park on the streets from 1am-7am. Weird hey? Anytime there is an overnight forcast of 7cm or over (and as the man from the tv tells me, this also includes ranges such as 5-10) you can't park on the street because of plowing. Sure, it makes sense, but I have never heard of that.

-This isn't my original material (this guy pointed it out to me) but I find it funny. Do a google image search for "good soup". The first image may look familiar to you.

Happy Thutsday everyone! (don't you hate "r"s???)

the world is playing tricks on me

The day I get a job offer (woooohooooo!!!!) for a job that would be interesting, not "living up to my potential" but decent...and temporary...I am invited to meet with the hiring department of an organization that I applied for that has a position that's permanent, wants my degree and my experience and pays quite well. WTF (sorry mum)?!?!?!
I will see if I can make the best of this situation by letting this second place know that I'm in hot demand and if they want me they had better act quickly. (do you think that's the right thing to do?)
I'm not used to this...but it makes me feel so good after a couple of months of crap!

trying to impress...it's exhausting

I think the interview went well. It was with one of the same people and with one "new" person (the person who is going on mat leave thus the person who is temporarily vacating the job). She looked great for how pregnant she was, but I thought that would be too brown-nosing to tell her that.
Anyway, we chatted it up about Calgary again (he is going to Calgary over Christmas...we are not on the same flight) and I am pretty sure I answered their questions well. They have already contacted at least one of my references (she let me know) and they are hoping to have a decision by the end of the week.

In other news, I am going to take a "skills test" on December 22nd. I applied with one of the many governmental organizations back in October and was "invited" to take a test on the 22nd. Luckily there are some practice tests on the internet, otherwise I would have no idea what to expect.

I'll try to update more often...we had a busy weekend and Jordan is trying to finish up a paper, so my computer time has been somewhat limited, but I am pretty sure he's close to being done.

Enjoy your lovely weather....it's just getting colder here!

randomness on a thursday

There is no collective title that is appropriate for all the thoughts I am about to post, so I will do a random Thursday since Friday randomness seems to have fallen by the wayside.

-I was apparently cool enough to nab myself a second interview. Hooray. Hopefully I can be "on" earlier in the morning. The next interview is at 9:30 am on Monday. It's been awhile since I've had to be smart at that time. (ooh...what should i wear???)

-I was excited to see that the Bransen family was not eliminated on this week's amazing race. You see, the day after the "double episode", I went on the website and the Bransens had accidentally been "greyed out". This lead me to believe that the mistake was one of greying too soon. As it turned out, it was a genuine mistake and someone was just not on the ball. Go Bransens (and Linzes...anyone but the holier than thou Weavers...honestly, any time you talk about how great you are and how christian you are in the same breath as tearing apart other people, you do not make my good list)

-I've now been here 2 months. It's officially the longest I've been away from "home". I guess that I'll have to start making the transition of not thinking of there as home. Though I think that will be a loooong transition. It will take many people moving away and things changing lots. I don't think that happens very quickly.

-I will be baking on Saturday. Hopefully there won't be too many disasters. I plan on trying out several new recipes and will be sharing my baking with many. Though if it sucks, I promise not to make you eat any.

-I can't figure out how to use MS messenger on this computer...what's with that? But this computer DOES have SPSS on it...that doesn't make me miss my last job at all...all SPSS all the time. (I do miss the people though).

-Once I get a job, I'm going to start volunteering. I haven't done so yet because I don't want to make a commitment I can't keep.

-I had Vietnamese soup for lunch. Mmmmm. The restaurant was right near the karaoke bubble tea bar that was the site of 2 "deadly shootings" on Tuesday. The police still had it taped off and were still there.

That is all for now. I hope you are all having a good day.

cautiously optimistic....

...that I will at least get a second interview.

If they don't want to interview me for a second time, well, I'll deal with that if it happens.
It is hard to leave an interview thinking "that went great" so I don't feel upset that it didn't happen. The bad news is, I spilled coffee on myself before the interview. The good news: it just got on my coat...not the white sweater I was wearing (or my pants for that matter).

i'm good enough...

...I'm smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like me.

I'll have to be doing some of that tomorrow morning. I'm sure it will go fine. Oh wait, it's supposed to go more than fine, it will go very well. (though i will settle for fine)

is it the 7th yet?

This weekend should be an interesting one...we have our marriage preparation class. It was strangely hard to find one that was at a good time for us and even this one isn't perfectly timed due to the fact that it's pretty close to the end of the semester and Jordan has a tonne of work to do, but it'll do. I am preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. I sincerely hope I don't want to start poking hot needles in my eyes by the end of it. But it's only tonight and tomorrow...so even if it is horrid, it's just for two days.

I got some good news this afternoon. At long last, I FINALLY have an interview. It's on December 7th...so hopefully I can manage to do some calming excercises or something so that I'm not super nervous and so that things go well.

Have a great weekend!
